How we work it out

  • Per head: weight paid on (liveweight, or liveweight × dressing % for carcase) × cents per kg ÷ 100.
  • What you keep: total minus commission (% of the total), levies and fees, and freight (per head).
  • Net c/kg liveweight: what you keep per head ÷ liveweight - a fair way to compare a paddock, saleyard and over-the-hooks offer.

All amounts are in New Zealand dollars (NZ$). An estimate only: actual weights, curfew and weighing conditions, grids, bruising, GST and your agent's terms change the real cheque. Check the numbers with your agent or buyer. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. Prices in $/cwt or $/lb? Use the livestock price converter; words like dressing percentage and c/kg lwt are in the farm words glossary.
